I was on google the other night and searching for the stock images for some of my items (for the site/quick updates/wishlist). I stumbled upon a UK Gumtree site. Now I thought Gumtree was only in Australia - cause well we have Gumtrees here and people always talk about it - so I didn't realise they had gone to other countries. I went to the Australian version and thought "check for sylvanians kirstie, you never know~!". So I did, and then sorted closest to my postcode. To my surprise, a few listings came up in our suburb! I saw a bunch of furniture, Babblebrook Grange, and the Regency Hotel. I already had the Hotel, and most of the sets, but I would love more to help furnish our 8? I think, homes.
The lady didn't want a lot for them, less then what they were bought for. So I told Mum, and she was all "awesome"! Now this was at 4am (we're both night owls xD) so I couldn't just text these people and ask if the Babblebrook Grange was still avaliable. So I waited til 6:30am, and sent one then, incase they were working people and got up at that time. At the worst, they'd ignore it or have the phone on silent.
I got a text back when Mum was about to head out, at about 12:50pm. I found out that the Babblebrook Grange had gone :( Was so sad, cause it was 1/3rd of the price, with no box and nothing missing. It went really quickly she said (when we met her). But the rest was still there. We asked if we could ring her, cause she was a bit slower on txt's and we had to know before Mum went out so she could arrange to pick me up and head to this ladies house before it got too late (winter time, so its darker here earlier). She said that was fine, so we did :) General chat mostly, and she said she'd give us a quote later today after 4pm (since Mum got back at 4pm, and it was almost 2pm at this time when she had to go) and gave us her address.
At almost 4pm on the dot, she sent the quote, but it was a little larger than we thought. Quick ring found out the loungeroom was gone but the rest was still there + some other things she found. We stopped to grab some cash, and make sure we had change for the whatever-amount we'd end up with. I started the GPS speaking navigation thing on my phone (galaxy note 2), and we headed over :D We didn't really need the GPS but she was off a new highway area they had built over the older road, so we wanted to see where it was. Was really easy to find, Mum goes on that road about twice a week.
She welcomed us in, and it was such a cute home :) The photo doesn't give it justice! I wanted to grab a photo for memories, as the inside was just as nice! (Made sure theres no address on it etc so its safe :) ) It had a wood panel 1/2 ceiling and cream carpets. A grey fluffy cat was sitting in front of the heater/fireplace area near the tv :) Reminded me of the Sylvanian Grey Cats :D The house itself looked a bit Sylvanian log-cabin style inside too.
She told us to head down the kitchen, which we did, and her little son (about 4?) was helping us :) We had a look at it all, and it was in great condition! There was 1 small milk mark on the swing but that's all I could find. All the items and figures all looked liked they just came out of the boxes and sat on display. She told us she had bought them for when he was younger, and he had outgrown it now. She was unable to have a girl otherwise she would have bought so much more for her. She even said that someone could go nuts and fill a whole walls worth with them! I didn't quite mention that we already did that xD
We ended up buying the lot, which we worked out that was about 1/2 price from retail later on. She gave us the Squirrel family aswell for free I think :D She had been hanging onto it for almost a month, so she must have wanted to get rid of it. Still has the Regency Hotel to get rid of, but that's all we left her with xD A few double-ups but thats ok. I can decorate, re-clothe, style, all good :D
Starting to get the sky in and some grass! :D Will be doing the inside sides aswell, just doing backs until I make sure I have enough fabric :)
Wow it's been a LONG time since I updated! We had to put a hold on the display quite a few times, and therefor the buying aswell. A tragedy happened where I live, one of the 2 stores that sell Sylvanian Familes, burnt down :( It was so sad, so many toys! It was arsan, a terrible thing to do. Bridges Bros it was called. They managed to keep the facade in tact at least but the man who did it has been charged.
(News on 19/1/13) (News on 22/2/13)
Last night I found out that Myer here in Hobart (Tasmania, Australia) sells them now~! How awesome ^^ Went to check them out, see what they had, and we ended up walking out with just a few things hehe ;D
Photos of the display in store :) We got the Swan Lake Ride, Popcorn Stand, Baby Cart Ride, and some more. Will do a photo of the haul soon :) Definitely before I open them xD
The shelving still looks quite bare compared to last time. It has been all placed out (on the shelves) but the front small tables display area isn't quite done. We managed to find these cute little rabbit green fuzzy figures at Habitat at Easter time. They look just like bunny hedges! So they'll be used as our town center statue type things :)
Sorry for the random stuff in that photo xD It was mainly just a reference photo to see where stuff is placed. Its not tidy yet, or had the grass / sky fully put in, just the cardboard under-area :S
Started to do a BIG sort on all the figures/sets. Got several boxy fabric style boxes that sit under the display nicely, using them for the process. Emptied out a few boxes at a time and allocated 1 for bedroom, another for kitchen/dining etc. And I used nicer black studded-up boxes (those ones that are 'created' by pushing the push-studs together on the sides) for families, carry cases and babies. Also put the delicate things inside like paper books etc and small things. Oh and 1 for spare/clothes sets.
So many things I had forgotten about! Families I didn't realise we had - like the Fisher Cats! And the Red Pandas! I dug out a bag full of randoms I had received in a big lot sale, as at the time it arrived, we didn't have time to check them out online. They had been safe in a almost air tight bag, so they didn't get damaged. I think I may have found a few rare ones too :) The Brighteyes Gray Rabbit Wedding Set OR The Gray Rabbit Wedding Set. Not sure which one, but leaning towards Brighteyes because of the Male rabbit's clothes. The lady didn't come with any official clothes, just a bit of lace tied around her a LOT with loose cotton + a sash from some randomness. Not sure which one it is. I have the dress shop soon, so the spare wedding dress from that can go on her :D The guy rabbit's clothes are in awesome condition if they're from the 1980's, so they'll look brand new ^^
Didn't realise we had so many carry cases either! 11 normal sizes, and 2 larger ones with 2 figures in each. Found my extra lights aswell, 4-6 more packets of them (light/curtain combo). Few chandeliers in there aswell. Just got to get the batteries for the TV's!
Also yesterday, finished wallpaper/flooring my Photo Shoot House :) It's basically an old "Village Store" that has lost its door, and I didn't have the room for it. So I changed it over to be that, since I didn't want to buy another basic house just to take photos. It sits on top of the display quite nicely :3 I'll be taking photos asap too, just got to get organised so everything's not everywhere like it was last night again xD
Part 1 of the other day :3 We had to go into the city and pick these up, as they were keeping them for us :) Been a while before we could get some of these, so it was lovely to be able to pick them up finally!
Close up pictures below.
We're renovating! We moved the collection shelves downstairs into the new converted double-garage-turned-awesome-tv/games-and-pc-room (2 very large rooms), so it gets the best lighting :D Ignore the weird sheet, its just covering 2 shelves we won't be using as it just has blank cd/dvds stored there, and the other side is where the top of the back of the PC is. Don't want it blowing on Sylvanians!
Its pretty bare at the moment, all the furniture came down tonight, sitting in big fabric boxes! They had all been boxed in plastic boxes / workplace styled boxes for about a year. We had a lot going on (with the Reno) and didn't want to damage them. Families, furniture, accessories, the BIG roll of sky and grass fabric, and anything else you can imagine for a Sylvanian village!
I can't believe Christmas is under a month away! I got a lot to get done! I've set myself a date of the 7th December for everything to be done. That includes the house tidy and ready, Sylvanian's put into their homes, Christmas Tree and decorations up and ready for the holidays :)
Yesterday and today me and mum went to the mall, and with all the christmas decorations for sale, we grabbed some garland/tinsel to use for bushes/hedges and other greeny goodness :) Also put up a small christmas tree so it can be a pine tree and double as their christmas tree in the village. I had to bend it down a little to fit (as it was too tall before the roof xD) so now its about the height of the Grand Hotel :) Will decorate it later with tinsel, baubles, and of course battery operated lights (found lots this year /cheer!)!
I really really wish that Weebly would let you resize your images with VALUE. I want to put a picture into a site, at full size. Like the family photos are going to have to be hosted elsewhere now, cause of this :( I wanted to have the family photos custom made in photoshop by myself (border etc) and then put on here full scale (cause I am going to make them fit to the design). But nooo they have to have to have a set size for every image ><
In sylvanian news, we got some sheets to use as the backdrop for the display! :D Sky blue, and they were on massive discount clearance :D Lucky for us huh? So we grabbed a few, that will be our sky :) Grabbed white aswell for some clouds :)
I know some of you used wallpaper and contact, but it's not gonna work for us :S But this new plan will :)
Went to see Toy Story 3 today with Mum :D Was awesome :) Just before that, we went to the post office once again, and woot more sylvanians made their long trip to Australia from the UK!
Mulberry Raccoon Familiy, Baby Girl and Baby Boy, Butler set, and the Birthday Set came :D /cheer!
I took some photos with my iphone, but they're meh xD They didn't come out the best :( I want to get closer and I can't, it just goes so blurry ><
The little Hazlewood Toy Shop came on friday! I'll take photos soon (still working on a good photo spot :D). It came with its original box aswell :)
Also the puzzle came :D Its a 100pcs, and was made in 1985 I think :) I haven't opened it yet, cause I'm still gathering collection things, and I didn't want to lose anything.
Waiting on a few things in the mail, that should come today (tech. today, its 2:22am!) but I'll go with Mum on Tuesday to collect it :)
We've thought of a new way to do the display too. I was originally having it in front of the window, but since I've gotten a few things now, I can see how I won't have much room left for expansion. Plus worried a bit about the sun damage :S So we've decided to shuffle the room around (move my husbands desk and the stuff on the wall next to me / across from the window) and put it on the wall in a whole custom-made-up-my-me-awesomeness-unit across from the window. So the sun will still reach them and make them look cool, but shouldn't get it so directly to damage them!
If that didn't make sense at all, I'll show a picture later this week or so when we've moved it around :) Flatpack furniture ftw!
Also thankyou to Panda :D I didn't realise my site was get-to-able yet xD I've been adding stuff as I go, making it a little better each day :) I still have heaps of work to do!
This blog is for updates on our collection and anything sylvanian hehe.
